Plain text of Kanda 2 · ii. 5. 6
The new and the full moon sacrifices are the chariot of the angels. He who, having offered the new and the full moon sacrifices, sacrifices with the provision, rests in the chosen resting-place of the angels which is conspicuous for its chariot tracks. The new and the full moons are the limbs and joints of the year; one who, knowing thus, offers the new and the full moon sacrifices thus unites the limbs and joints of the year. The new and the full moon are the eyes of the year; one who, knowing thus, offers them thus sees with them along the world of heaven. The new and the full moon are the striding of the angels; one who, knowing thus, offers them steps in the striding of the angels. The new and the full moon are the path on which the angels fare; one who, knowing thus, offers them mounts the path on which the angels fare. The new and the full moons are the bay steeds of the angels; one who, knowing thus, offers them carries to God with their two bay steeds the offering. The new and the full moon sacrifices are the mouth of the angels; one who, knowing thus, offers them manifestly sacrifices in the mouth of the angels. One who offers the new and the full moon sacrifices possesses an oblation holder. He offers the Agnihotra morn and evening, he offers the new and the full moon sacrifices; on every day the provision of those who have oblation holders is pressed. The angels could not find the suitable day for the sacrifice. They purified the new and full moons; the new and the full moon sacrifices are these pure and sacrificial days. One who, knowing thus, offers the new and the full moon sacrifices offers them as pure and sacrificial. Therefore of the series of nights it is on the new and the full moon night that the angels are sacrificed to; for they are the appointers of portions for the angels. Men appoint portions to him who knows thus. Creatures slew hunger, man at once, the angels at the half-month, the ancestors in a month, trees in a year. Therefore day by day men desire food, at the half-month the angels are sacrificed to, every month offering is made for the ancestors, in a year trees produce fruit. One who knows thus slays the enemy, hunger.
