Plain text of Kanda 2 · ii. 4. 1

The angels, men, and the ancestors were on one side; the rejecters and the evil ones on the other. The evil ones oppressed the angels by the nights, and the dawn dawned on them smothered and dead. The angels understood, "Whoever of us dies, it is the evil ones who kill." Then indeed did the angels conquer the rejecters, and having conquered them, they drove away the evil ones. The evil ones, saying, "Ye have done falsely," surrounded the angels on all sides. The angels found a protector in the Radiant; they offered to the Radiant, the Forward, a cake on eight potsherds, to the Radiant, the Overcomer, to the Radiant with the Face. In that they offered to the Forward, the evil ones in front they repelled thereby; in that to the Overcomer, the evil ones that were around they repelled thereby; in that to the one with the Face, the evil ones behind were repelled thereby. Thus the angels prospered, and the evil ones were defeated. One who has foes should in conflict sacrifice with this offering; he should offer to the Forward a cake on eight potsherds, to the Overcomer, and to the one with the Face. In that he offers to the Forward, he repels thereby the foe who is superior to him; in that to the Overcomer, he repels thereby the foe who is equal to him; in that to the one with the Face, he repels thereby the foe who is inferior to him. He repels the foe who is superior, he surpasses him who is like, the inferior does not equal him who, knowing thus, sacrifices with this offering.
