Plain text of Kanda 2 · ii. 3. 7

The angels and those who rejected God were in conflict; the rejecters conquered the angels; the angels, being defeated, became their servants; from them power and strength departed; the Mighty perceived this; he departed in pursuit of it, and could not win it. Then he departed from it and had recourse to the Creator; He made him sacrifice with this offering with all the Prishtha Stotras; thereby He bestowed upon him power and strength. One who desires power and strength should be made to sacrifice with this offering with all the Prishthas; he has recourse to God with his own share, and He bestows upon him power and strength. In that he offers to the Mighty of the Rathantara, he wins the brilliance of the Radiant; in that he offers to the Mighty of the Brihat, he wins the brilliance of the Mighty; in that to the Mighty of the Vairupa, he wins the brilliance of the Light-giver; in that to the Mighty of the Vairaja, he wins the brilliance of the Creator; in that to the Mighty of the Shakvara, he wins the brilliance of the Maruts; in that to the Mighty of the Raivata, he wins the brilliance of the Lord of Prayer. So many are the brilliances, and he wins them; he places the cakes on potsherds face upwards, for variety; the cake is on twelve potsherds, to secure all the angels. He cuts off all around; thus all around he bestows on the sacrificer power and strength; he recites the verses alternately, to prevent burning. A horse, a bull, a ram, a goat, these are the sacrificial fee, for manliness.
