Plain text of The Epic of Gilgamish (Passages) · The Ninth Tablet
"I myself shall die, and shall I not then be as Enkidu?
Sorrow hath entered into my soul,
Because of the fear of death which hath got hold of me do I wander over the country."
"I will set out and travel quickly. I shall reach the defiles in the mountains by night, and if I see lions, and am terrified at them, I shall lift up my head and pray to God, who is wont to hearken to the prayers of His servants."
