Plain text of Fargard XXII
1 God spake unto Spitama Zarathustra, saying: "I, God, the Maker of all good things, when I made this mansion, the beautiful, the shining, seen afar (there may the righteous go up, there may they pass!)
2 "Then the ruffian Satan, the deadly, wrought by his witchcraft nine diseases, and ninety, and nine hundred, and nine thousand, and nine times ten thousand diseases. So may My holy Word, the most glorious one, heal the afflicted.
3 "In return, let a thousand fleet, swift-running steeds be offered up as a sacrifice and charity in God's name, for the good blessing, made by God and holy.
"In return, let a thousand fleet, high-humped camels be offered up as a sacrifice and charity in God's name, for the good blessing, made by God and holy.
4 "In return, let a thousand brown oxen that do not push be offered up as a sacrifice and charity in God's name, for the good blessing, made by God and holy.
"In return, let a thousand young of all species of small cattle be offered up as a sacrifice and charity in God's name, for the good blessing, made by God and holy.
5 "And I will bless with the fair, holy blessing, the friendly, holy blessing, that makes the empty swell to fulness and the full to overflowing, that comes to help him who was sickening, and makes the sick man sound again."
6 The angel who bears the holy Word, the all-glorious, replied: "How shall I heal them? How shall I drive away from them those nine diseases, and those ninety, those nine hundred, those nine thousand, and those nine times ten thousand diseases?"
7 God, the Maker, called for the angel Nairyosangha: "Go thou, Nairyosangha, the herald, and drive towards the mansion of the helper Airyaman, and speak thus unto him:
8 "Thus speaks God, the Holy One, unto thee: 'I, God, the Maker of all good things, when I made this mansion, the beautiful, the shining, seen afar (there may the righteous go up, there may they pass!)
9 "'Then the ruffian Satan, the deadly, wrought by his witchcraft nine diseases, and ninety, and nine hundred, and nine thousand, and nine times ten thousand diseases. So mayst thou heal them, O Airyaman, the much-desired!
10 "'In return, let a thousand fleet, swift-running steeds be offered up as a sacrifice and charity in God's name, for the good blessing, made by God and holy.
"'In return, let a thousand fleet, high-humped camels be offered up as a sacrifice and charity in God's name, for the good blessing, made by God and holy.
11 "'In return, let a thousand brown oxen, that do not push, be offered up as a sacrifice and charity in God's name, for the good blessing, made by God and holy.
"'In return, let a thousand young of all species of small cattle be offered up as a sacrifice and charity in God's name, for the good blessing, made by God and holy.
12 "'And I will bless with the fair, holy blessing, the friendly, holy blessing, that makes the empty swell to fulness and the full to overflowing, that comes to help him who was sickening, and makes the sick man sound again.'"
13 In obedience to God's words he went, Nairyosangha, the herald; he drove towards the mansion of Airyaman, he spake unto Airyaman, saying:
14 "Thus speaks God, the Holy One, unto thee: 'I, God, the Maker of all good things, when I made this mansion, the beautiful, the shining, seen afar (there may the righteous go up, there may they pass!)
15 "'Then the ruffian Satan, the deadly, wrought by his witchcraft nine diseases, and ninety, and nine hundred, and nine thousand, and nine times ten thousand diseases. So mayst thou heal them, O Airyaman, the much-desired!
16 "'In return, let a thousand fleet, swift-running steeds be offered up as a sacrifice and charity in God's name, for the good blessing, made by God and holy.
"'In return, let a thousand fleet, high-humped camels be offered up as a sacrifice and charity in God's name, for the good blessing, made by God and holy.
17 "'In return, let a thousand brown oxen that do not push be offered up as a sacrifice and charity in God's name, for the good blessing, made by God and holy.
"'In return, let a thousand young of all species of small cattle be offered up as a sacrifice and charity in God's name, for the good blessing, made by God and holy.
18 "'And I will bless with the fair, holy blessing, the friendly, holy blessing, that makes the empty swell to fulness and the full to overflowing, that comes to help him who was sickening, and makes the sick man sound again.'"
19 Quickly was it done, nor was it long, eagerly set off the much-desired Airyaman, towards the mountain of the holy questions, towards the forest of the holy questions.
20 Nine stallions brought he with him, the much-desired Airyaman.
Nine camels brought he with him, the much-desired Airyaman.
Nine bulls brought he with him, the much-desired Airyaman.
Nine head of small cattle brought he with him, the much-desired Airyaman.
He brought with him the nine twigs; he drew along nine furrows.
21 "In God's name I drive away Ishire, I drive away Aghuire, I drive away Aghra, I drive away Ughra; I drive away sickness, I drive away death, I drive away pain and fever; I drive away Sarana, I drive away Sarastya, I drive away Azana, I drive away Azahva, I drive away Kurugha, I drive away Asivaka, I drive away Duruka, I drive away Astairya; I drive away the disease, rottenness, and infection which Satan has brought upon the bodies of mortals by his witchcraft.
22 "I drive away all manner of diseases and deaths, all sorcerers and female fiends, and all the wicked Gahis.
23 "May the much-desired helper come here, by God's leave, for the men and women of Zarathustra to rejoice, for the faithful to rejoice; with the desirable reward that is won by means of the law, and with that boon for holiness that is vouchsafed by the Lord.
24 "May the much-desired helper, by God's leave, smite all manner of diseases and deaths, all sorcerers and female fiends, and all the wicked Gahis.
25 "The will of the Lord is the law of holiness; the riches of the good mind shall be given to him who works in this world for God, and wields according to the will of the Lord the power He gave him to relieve the poor.
"Whom hast thou placed to protect me, O Lord, while the hate of the fiend is grasping me? Whom but Thy sign, the fire, and the good thought, by whose work the holy world goes on? Reveal to me the rules of Thy law!
"Who is he who will smite the fiend in order to maintain Thy ordinances? Teach me clearly Thy rules for this world and for the next, that the angel Sraosha may come with good thought and help whomsoever Thou pleasest.
"Keep us from our hater, O Lord, and keep us in holy devotion! Perish, O fiendish one! Perish, O brood of the fiend! Perish, O world of the fiend! Perish away, O fiend! Perish away to the regions of the north, never more to give unto death the living world of the holy spirit!"
