Plain text of The Gatha Spenta Mainyu · Yasna 1 (The Worship Commences)

I announce and I will complete my worship of God the Wise Lord, the Creator, the radiant and glorious, the greatest and the best, the most beautiful to our conceptions, the most firm, the wisest, and the One of all whose works are the most perfect, who attains His ends the most infallibly because of His righteous Order; Him who disposes our minds aright, who sends His joy-creating grace afar; who made us, and has fashioned us, and who has nourished and protected us, who is the most bountiful Spirit!

I announce and I will complete my worship to the Good Mind, and to Righteousness the Best, and to the sovereignty which is to be desired, and to Piety the bountiful, and to the two, Universal Welfare and Immortality, which are God's gifts; to the body of the Cow, and to the Cow's soul; and to the light of God the Wise Lord, His sign, that which more than all His bountiful gifts has made most effort for our succour.

And I announce and I will complete my worship to God, who rules the appointed days of worship, the Lord of the morning watch of the ritual order; and I celebrate and will complete my worship of Him as the Lord of the midday and the evening watches, who orders the times of worship. And I announce and will complete my worship to God the Friend of the wide pastures, of the thousand ears and of the myriad eyes, the All-hearing, the All-seeing, whose name is spoken in praise.

I announce and will complete my worship to God, the Lord who orders the ritual hours, the noon watch, and the seasons of the year; and I celebrate and complete my worship of God the Righteous, the Best, and of the light which is the sign of the Wise Lord.

I announce and complete my worship to God, Lord of the afternoon watch of the ritual order, and of the seasons of growth and of the herds, and of the harvest; and to that lofty Lord of the waters, and to the waters which God the Wise Lord made.

I announce and complete my worship to God, Lord of the evening watch and the nightfall, who orders all the hours of the ritual; and to Him who possesses and who gives that prosperity in life which furthers all. And I make mention before God of the souls of the righteous, and of the women who have many sons, and of a prosperous home-life which continues without reverse throughout the year, and of that might which is well-shaped and stately, which strikes victoriously, God-given, and of that victorious ascendency which it secures.

I announce and I complete my worship to God, Lord of the dawn watch of the ritual order, and of the seasons of settlement and of home; and I give thanks for Obedience, the blessed, endowed with blessed recompense as a thing completed, who smites with victory and furthers the settlements; and to God the Most Just, and to Rectitude, who advances the settlements and causes them to increase.

And I announce and I complete my worship to God, Lord of the monthly festivals, the ritual order of the new moon and the waning moon, and of the full moon which scatters night.

And I announce and complete my worship to God, Lord of the yearly feasts, the holy seasons of the ritual order. I celebrate and complete my worship to God, Lord of the mid-spring season, of the mid-summer season, of the season of bringing in the corn, of the season of the herds, of the season of the mid-year, and of the season of the all-year gathering; yea, I celebrate and complete my worship to God, Lord of the seasons of the ritual order.

And I announce and complete my worship to God for all those appointed times, the thirty and three, which, coming the nearest, are around about the morning watch, and which were inculcated by God the Wise Lord and were promulgated by Zarathushtra, as the times of the Order of Righteousness the Best.

And I announce and complete my worship to God, the Lord and the Friend, the lofty, the everlasting and the holy; and I give thanks to Him for all the stars, which are creatures of the Bountiful Spirit, and for the star Tishtrya, the resplendent and glorious, and for the moon which contains the seed of the cattle, and for the resplendent sun of the rapid steeds, which is a sign of God the Wise Lord, and for God the Friend, ruler of the provinces. And I celebrate and complete my worship to God the Wise Lord once again, the radiant, the glorious, and I remember before Him the souls of the righteous.

And I announce and complete my worship to God, giver of the light, the sign of the Wise Lord, and for all lights; and for the good waters, even all the waters made by God, and all the plants which God made.

And I announce and complete my worship to God for the bountiful sacred word, the holy and effective, the revelation given against the powers of evil; the revelation through Zarathushtra, and the long descent of the good faith of the worshippers of God.

And I announce and complete my worship to God for the mountain Ushi-darena, made by God, with its sacred brilliance, and for all the mountains glorious with sanctity, with their abundant glory made by God, and for that majestic glory made by God, the unconsumed glory which God made. And I announce and complete my worship to God for the good blessedness of the reward, and for the good religious knowledge, and for the good rectitude, and for the good persisting zeal, and for the glory and the benefit which are God-made.

And I announce and complete my worship to God for the pious and good blessing of the religious man, the holy, and for the wise man's warning, swift and redoubted in power.

And I announce and complete my worship to God for these places and these lands, and these pastures, and these abodes with their springs of water, and for the waters, land, and plants, and for this earth and yon heaven, and for the holy wind, and for the stars, moon, and sun, and for the stars that run their course from the beginning, ordained, and for all the holy creatures of the Bountiful Spirit, male and female, which regulate the ritual order.

And I announce and complete my worship to God, the lofty Lord who is the Order of the ritual in itself, and who is Lord of the days in their duration and of the days during daylight, of the moons, the years, and the seasons, which order the ritual at the time of the morning watch.

And I announce and complete my worship to God, and I remember the souls of the righteous, the redoubted, which overwhelm the evil, those of the righteous of the ancient lore, those of the next of kin, and the soul of my own self!

And I announce and complete my worship to God, Lord of all the ordered times of the ritual, and I give thanks for all His beneficent angels who dispose all aright, those both heavenly and earthly, who serve Him, worthy of our regard because of Righteousness the Best, the ritual Order which is the best.

O God, Lord of the morning watch of the ritual order, and of the noon, the afternoon, the evening, and the seasons, Thou that aidest life! If I have offended against Thee, and against Thee, O Lord of the dawn, of the ritual order,

If I have offended Thee, whether by thought, or word, or deed, whether by act of will or without intent or wish, I earnestly make up the deficiency of this in praise to Thee. If I have caused decrease in that which is Thy worship and Thy homage, I announce and celebrate Thee the more for this!

Yea, O Lord, all ye greatest ones among Thy creatures, if I have offended against you by thought, or word, or deed, whether with my will or without intending error, I praise God the more for this. I announce to Him the more if I have caused decrease in this which is His worship and His praise.

I would confess myself a worshipper of God the Wise Lord, of the order of Zarathushtra, a foe to the powers of evil, devoted to the lore of the Lord, for the morning watch, the holy time of the ritual order, for sacrifice, homage, devotion, and praise; for the midday and evening watches, the holy times of the ritual order, for sacrifice, homage, devotion, and praise; and for the sacrifice, homage, devotion and praise of the days in their duration, and of the days during daylight, for the monthly festivals, for the yearly ones, and for the seasons!
