Plain text of Book 3, Hymn 21
1 All fires that are in water and in the cloud, all those that man and stones contain within them,
That which hath entered herbs and trees and bushes—for all these fires, for the sake of God who made them, be this offering made.
2 That which abides in the gift of the plants and in cattle, that which lies deep in birds and forest creatures,
That which hath entered quadrupeds and bipeds—for all these fires, for the sake of God, be this offering made.
3 The fire that rideth by the side of lightning, all-consuming,
Whom, as a power of war, I fear in battles—for all these fires, for the sake of God, be this offering made.
4 The all-encompassing God whom men call the Giver and Receiver,
Invincible, all-pervading in knowledge, wise and mighty—for all these fires, for the sake of God, be this offering made.
5 To Thee, strength-giver, glorious, rich in pleasant strains, to whom in their minds the thirteen creatures of the world
And the five peoples of men turn—for all these fires, for the sake of God, be this offering made.
6 To Him who gave the ox and the cow for our food, the Wise, the Giver of provision,
To all the fires that serve His law—for the sake of God be this offering made.
7 All fiery flames that follow after lightning, flashing o'er earth, through firmament and heaven,
All that are in the wind and skyey regions—for all these fires, for the sake of God, be this offering made.
8 O God, the Light-giver, the Mighty, the Lord of Prayer, the All-Seeing, the Friend, the Radiant,
Upon Thee we call, and on Thy angels: appease this fire, the flesh-devourer.
9 The flesh-eating fire is appeased, appeased is that which hurteth men.
Now that which burneth everything, the flesh-consumer, hath been stilled.
10 The mountains where the plants of provision grow, the waters lying calm and still,
The wind and the rain, and the fire itself have made the flesh-consumer rest.
