Plain text of Hymn 8

May God the Friend, in His mercy, order the seasons, lulling the earth to rest with men of splendour. And so may He make our dominion tranquil and exalted.

May God the Mighty and the Fashioner hear my word with favour, may the Ordainer and the Gracious One, the Light-giver, accept it. I call upon God that I may be the centre of my kinsmen.

I call upon God, the Provider and the Light-giver, with humble homage in the time of contest. Long may this fire send forth its splendour, lighted by kinsmen uttering no word against me.

Here, verily, may you stay: go ye no farther. May God the Nourisher, Lord of Increase, bring you hither! To please this man may all God's favours come unto you.

May our minds be bent together; may your vows and purposes be bent together with ours. May God bring together you who stand apart with hopes opposed to ours.

I with my spirit hold your spirits in fellowship. Follow with thought and wish my thoughts and wishes. May your hearts be loyal to my dominion: come to me attendant the way I guide you.
