Plain text of Book 20, Hymn 77
Impetuous, True, let the Bountiful One be gracious to us, and let His help speed to reach us. For Him have we prepared an offering exceeding great: here, praised with song, let Him be near.
2 Be present, O Hero, to-day at this offering. Like Usana, the priest shall utter a laud, a hymn to Thee, the Lord Divine, who markest.
3 When the Mighty One accepts our offering, as a sage paying holy rites in secret, seven singers here from heaven hath He sent, who seen by day have wrought their works while singing.
4 When heaven's fair light by hymns was made apparent, (they made great splendour shine at break of morning), He with His succour, best of heroes, scattered the blinding darkness so that men saw clearly.
5 God, the Impetuous, is immense: with His vastness He hath filled earth and heaven, yea, beyond this His majesty extendeth, who hath exceeded all the worlds in greatness.
6 God the Mighty, who knoweth well all human actions, hath with His hosts let loose the waters. They, with their songs, cleft e'en the mountain open, and willingly disclosed the stall of cattle.
7 He smote away the flood's obstructer, the force of evil; the earth, conscious, lent her aid to speed Thy might. Thou didst send forth the waters of the ocean, as Lord, through power and strength, O Mighty One.
8 When, O Much-invoked, Thou didst cleave the rock of the waters, the dawn-breeze showed herself and went before Thee. Hymned by the Angirases, who burst open the cow-stalls, Thou didst find ample strength for us as our Guide.
