Plain text of Book 19, Hymn 28
On thee I bind this band of grass for lengthened life and brilliancy, trusting in God, that He may burn up the malice of the rival and foe.
Burning the spirit of the foe, vexing the heart of enemies, may God, on every side, like heat, inflame the remorse of all evil-hearted men.
O God, burning round like heat, consuming foes, like the Mighty One rending the demon who withheld the waters, break asunder the plots of mine adversaries.
Break through, O God, my foes', mine adversaries' purposes. Rise Thou and batter down their pride like growth that covereth the earth.
Break, O God, my rivals, break the men who fain would fight with me. Break all who wish me evil, break the men who hate me!
Wound, O God, the power of my rivals; wound all who wish me evil, wound the men who hate me!
Tear, O God, the plots of my rivals; tear all who wish me evil, the men who hate me!
Hew down, O God, my rivals' designs; hew all who wish me evil, the men who hate me!
Carve away, O God, my rivals' strength; carve all who wish me evil, the men who hate me!
Pierce, O God, my rivals' schemes, pierce the men who fain would fight with me. Pierce those who wish me evil, pierce the men who hate me!
