Plain text of Hymn 5
O God the Mighty, be gracious, turn to us with Thy aid, O Hero. Accept the offering made for Thy sake and the hymn, O Fair One, and receive our praise.
O Mighty One, as one athirst receives drink as if from heaven, so may the sweetness of this provision, sweet-toned with songs, come to us as to the light.
Swift-conquering God the Mighty smote, as a sage, the demon of drought; He cleft the cloud-enclosure through, and quelled his foes.
O Mighty One, hear my call, accept the song I sing, and let Thy servants rejoice to the height of gladness.
Now will I tell the manly deeds of the Mighty One, the first that He achieved, the thunder-wielder. He slew the Dragon, then disclosed the waters, and cleft the channels of the mountain torrents.
He slew the Dragon lying on the mountain: His heavenly bolt of thunder was fashioned at His command. Like lowing kine in rapid flow descending the waters glided downward to the ocean.
Impetuous as a bull He took the thunder for His weapon, and smote to death this first-born of the dragons.
