Plain text of Book 5, Hymn 12
1 Kindled this day in the house of man, O All-Knowing, may Thy light lead us to worship God alone.
Observant, bright as a friend, Thou art a sapient and foreknowing guide.
2 Self-generated, fair-tongued, with sweet honey balming the paths and ways of Order, make them pleasant.
Accept our worship, exalting with holy thoughts our hymns of praise and devotion.
3 Invoked, deserving prayer and adoration, O God the Radiant, come accordant with Thy bounty.
Thou art, O youthful Lord, the best of givers, so bring us blessings quickly.
4 By rule the Sacred Grass is scattered eastward, a robe to clothe this earth when dawns are breaking.
Widely it spreads around and far extended, fair for the worshippers and bringing peace and freedom.
5 Let the expansive Doors be widely opened, like wives who deck their beauty for their husbands.
Lofty, celestial, all-impelling Portals, admit the righteous and give them easy entrance!
6 Pouring sweet dews let holy Night and Morning, signs of God, each close to each, keep their station,—
Lofty, celestial, with gold to deck them, assuming all their fair and radiant beauty.
7 Let sweet-voiced leaders of prayer, arranging worship for man,
As singers who inspire us in assemblies, show the eastern light with their direction!
8 Let praise, devotion and eloquence, the gifts of God, come quickly to our worship,
And be seated with us on this fair grass.
9 O thou most skilled in worship, bring us to-day to God the Fashioner, who knowest,
Even Him who formed these two, the earth and heaven, with their forms, and every creature.
10 Accept our offerings, which Thou balmest in ordered season.
May God sweeten our offered gifts with honey and butter!
11 The light of devotion, as soon as it arose, made ready the worship and led the way.
May our offering, consecrated according to this true guidance, be accepted by God.
