Plain text of Book 5, Hymn 7
1 Bar not the way to us, O Misfortune! Stay not the reward that is being brought us.
We seek refuge in God from failure, misfortune, and malignity.
3 May our desire, which God hath roused, fulfil itself by day and night.
We seek refuge in God from misfortune.
4 We, suppliant, call on God the Bestower, the Giver of speech, the Granter of favour.
Pleasant words have I spoken, sweet as honey is, at invocations.
5 The portion that I crave with speech intelligent and full of power,
May faith find to-day.
6 O God, make not our words or wishes fruitless. Bring us treasures.
All, fain to-day to give us gifts.
7 Misfortune! go thou far away, by God's leave: we turn thy harmful dart aside.
I know thee well, Malignity! as oppressor, one who penetrates.
