Plain text of Book 4, Hymn 35

1 The provision which God the Creator, the first in Order, prepared with care for the devout,

By whom the worlds are guarded from breaking at the centre—I with this charity given for His sake trust Him against the pangs of death.

2 Through whom the righteous of old overcame the fear of death, whom they found by fervour, toil and trouble,

To whom prayer was first made ready—I with this charity given for His sake trust Him against the pangs of death.

3 He that upholds the Earth, the all-sustainer, that hath filled air's middle realm with moisture,

Who, raised on high in grandeur, stablished heaven—I with this charity given for His sake trust Him against the pangs of death.

4 From whom the months with thirty spokes were moulded, from whom the twelve-spoked year was formed and fashioned,

Whom circling day and night have ne'er o'ertaken—I with this charity given for His sake trust Him against the pangs of death.

5 Who hath become breath-giver, life-bestower, to whom the worlds flow full of oil and fatness,

To whom belong all the refulgent regions—I with this charity given for His sake trust Him against the pangs of death.

6 From whom, matured, sprang life everlasting into being, who hath become the lord and ruler of the hymns,

In whom the perfect revelations have been treasured—I with this charity given for His sake trust Him against the pangs of death.

7 I turn away the hostile despiser of God: far off be those who are mine adversaries.

I prepare this food of charity that winneth all things. May God hear me who believe and trust.
