Plain text of Book 4, Hymn 23

1 I fix my heart on God the Radiant, wise and ancient, the Lord of all peoples, whose light is kindled in many a place.

We seek Him who hath entered all our houses with His mercy. May He deliver us from grief and trouble.

2 As Thou knowest all things, O All-Knowing, and fashionest the worship with knowledge,

So accept the prayer we utter. May He deliver us from grief and trouble.

3 I pray to God in each act successful, employed in every worship, the strongest,

Destroyer of devils, whom worship strengthens. May He deliver us from grief and trouble.

4 We invoke God, the All-Knowing, the Almighty, the Lord of all men.

May He set us free from trouble.

5 With whom as friend the sages gave their power new splendour, with whom they kept aloof the devices of the devils,

With whom the Mighty overcame the miserly. May He deliver us from grief and trouble.

6 Through whom the plants were stored with pleasant juices,

Through whom was brought to men the light of heaven. May He deliver us from grief and trouble.

7 I, suppliant, praise and ever call on God, sole Lord of all this world, of all that shineth,

Of what exists and shall exist hereafter. May He deliver us from grief and trouble.
