Plain text of Book 4, Hymn 11

1 God supports the wide-spread earth and heaven.

God supports the spacious air between them.

God supports the sky's six spacious regions: the universal world hath He pervaded.

2 God the Mighty over the beasts He watches. He measures out three several pathways.

He brings forth the worlds, the past, the future, and the angels discharge their duties at His command.

4 God pours out blessing in the world of virtue: in earliest time He swells it.

The rain is the stream, the winds His udder, devotion is the milk, the reward its milking.

6 May we, fame-seekers, reach the world of virtue by service of God and through fervour,

Whereby the righteous go up to heaven, the abode of life eternal, having left the body.

9 Whosoever knows the seven exhaustless outpourings of God's bounty

Wins himself offspring and the world: the great seven sages knew this well.

10 With feet subduing weariness, with legs extracting freshening draughts,

Through toil the plougher and the Ox approach the honeyed beverage.

11 Assigned are these twelve nights, they say, as holy to God the Creator:

Whoever knows their proper prayer performs the service of God.

12 At evening His bounty is drawn, at early morn, at noon.

We know that streams of blessing that flow from Him are inexhaustible.
