Plain text of Book 4, Hymn 1
1 Eastward at first the revelation was generated: God disclosed bright flashes from the summit,
Disclosed His deepest, nearest revelations, the source of the non-existent and existent.
2 Let this Word come forward, found in the worlds for earliest generation.
For Him they set this radiant vault in motion.
3 He, the All-Knowing, declareth all things' generations.
He from the midst of prayer hath taken His prayer. On high, below, spread forth is His power.
4 For He, true to the law of earth and heaven, established both the mighty worlds securely.
Mighty, He propped apart the sky, our earthly home, and air's mid-region.
5 He from the depth bringeth forth ever anew, the Lord of Prayer, the world's sole Lord and Ruler.
From light was born the Day with all its lustre: through this let sages live endowed with splendour.
6 The sage and poet verily advanceth the statute of that mighty God, the First.
Many were born here beside him: they slumbered when the foremost side was opened.
7 The man who seeks the Friend of the angels with worship,
Crying to Him, "Thou art the Creator of all things!"—the wise God, self-sufficient, never injures.
