Plain text of Chapter XXIV - God accepts their offering
Then the merciful God, good and loving to His servants, looked at Adam and Eve, and at their offering, which they had held up to Him without an order from Him for so doing. And He accepted their offering.
And God sent from His presence a bright fire, that consumed their offering.
He accepted the sweet savor of their offering, and showed them mercy.
Then came the Word of God to Adam, and said to him, "O Adam, as you have raised your altar and your prayer to Me in sorrow, so will I raise up for you, in due time, a people who will build altars on the earth for Me alone; and as you cried to Me in your distress, so will I hear every servant who cries to Me.
And as you sued for forgiveness, so also will I forgive sins and erase transgressions, for I am Forgiving and Merciful to whoever repents and does good.
And now, behold, I have accepted your offering, O Adam, but the days of the covenant in which I have bound you are not fulfilled. When they are fulfilled, then will I bring you back into the garden.
Now, therefore, strengthen your heart; and when sorrow comes over you, make Me an offering, and I will be favorable to you."
